Finals weekend 2008 was a great success with all games played in the right spirit and to a very high standard. A fantastic turn out ensured that every competition was completed on time and every one who attended witnessed some outstanding pool of the highest quality. In total 47 matches were played over the two days plus two 14-1 competitions, with 16 teams present and numerous spectators the whole weekend was a rousing success.

Saturday saw the Q/F, S/F and Final of Doubles, Round Robin & Top 4 KO, with each game throwing up its own twists and turns. in the Top 4 KO Woodman provided the first shock of the day in S/F 1 with an outstanding performance to see off the current league champions Boarshaw 8-4,  S/F 2 was much tighter though with Charlestown A beating Railway & Linnet 8-7 after a deciding frame play off. In the Final Charlestown A showed some great form to outclass Woodman 8-2 and clinch the title.

In the Round Robin final both teams had beaten some classy opposition along the way and a final match up between S.Hartley & A.Johnstone (Railway & Linnet) & M.Beeson & J.King (Boarshaw) proved to be a great final with Beeson & King coming through 3-2 after a fantastic match.

The Doubles proved to be just as exciting with former three times winners S.Hartley & A.Johnstone (Railway & Linnet) playing the hot favourites S.Munro & A.Knight (Charlestown A). This match proved to be quality pool with all 7 frames being won from the break. Munro & Knight came through 4-3 in what has to be the best final ever.

Day two saw the finals of both D1 & D2 individuals, Lower Div KO and the Plate. After one team failed to turn up the plate was reduced to a round robin with Cotton Tree, Whoda' Thow It and Tavern all vying for the title, after all beating each other the Whoda' Thow It won on count back winning the most frames.

Lower Div KO yet again proved to be the noisiest competition and one of the most exciting. After league champions and favourites Albion were knocked out in the Q/F it fell to there conquerors Britannia who played some outstanding pool to take the final 8-6 from Assheton Arms.

Div 2 Individuals was fought out between two players from D2 league champs Albion. M.Hansen & B.Hunter (Left)played out an outstanding final with little to choose between the two team mates but in the end it was Hunter who prevailed 6-3.

Div 1 Individuals again proved to be a quality match between D.Bamford (Woodman) & J.Byrne (Boarshaw)(Below). Both players gave in 100% in an attempt to pick up the most prestigious trophy of the weekend. After the lead changing hands one way and then the other the title finally went to Byrne with a deciding frame win 6-5.

To back up the standard of pool Saturdays 14-1 comp was won with an outstanding display from S.Fitzsimmons (Charlestown A) with a score of 104. Sundays comp was won with a more modest 28 by (the webmaster) P.Houten (Railway & Linnet)
